1. The Big "C"

   Someone close to me had Bowel Cancer and had their bowel removed 10 years ago. Earlier this year they started to get sudden hot flushes and they were told they were suffering from panic attacks. This was around February. By the time June was here it was not only temperature rises but pain too so off they went to the Doctor who said that they should go and see a Consultant.
   
   To cut a long story short it ended up with three Consultants scratching their heads over it until finally a decision was made that they should take a look inside the stomach. This was finally done last week - mid August - bear the time lapses in mind - and four days later the results of the tissue came back and on Tuesday they were informed that the cancer was back - I should mention that this was after they delayed things as long as they could by telling this person that the chances of the cancer returning after 10 years was next to nil.
   
   This person now has to wait until Monday next when they will do tests to see if it has spread to other parts of the body - this will be the beginning of September - then on the following Friday (5th September) they will have a meeting to discuss if and how to treat it.
   
   How many times do they say on the Cancer Research ads on TV that if they catch it early enough they can cure it?
   
   What a joke - they don't even look for it and then as an NHS patient you just have to wait and see when they can fit you in. I find this disgusting - almost as disgusting as some health areas refusing to stock drugs that can help hold cancer in remission.
